Before starting the full-time cybersecurity bootcamp at Ironhack, the program provided pre-work that was essential to getting us prepared for the intense weeks ahead.
The pre-work gave me a solid foundation in core cybersecurity concepts. I dove into topics like:
- An introduction to cybersecurity through Tryhackme platform.
- Basics of Computing and Networking
- Introduction to cybersecurity tools and terminology.
The platform was interactive, offering a mix of reading materials, TryHackMe exercises, and quizzes. It took me about 3 hours or less to complete, but that’s because I had already been preparing myself to enter the field. For instance, I completed certifications from CompTIA, BTL1, and, although I didn’t take the CCNA exam, I studied deeply for it. If you’d like to learn more about my progress and those certifications, check out the About Me section.
The pre-work is very beginner-friendly, making it ideal for people who are starting out, especially those transitioning from other fields. Personally, I would recommend completing the pre-work over the span of one or two weeks, but don’t rush—take your time to understand the material thoroughly.
If you’re considering joining Ironhack’s Cybersecurity Bootcamp, I would highly recommend taking the pre-work seriously and making the most out of it. It will set you up for success and help you get the most out of the bootcamp.
