Today marked the first official day of my cybersecurity bootcamp at Ironhack, and it was an exciting start!

We kicked off early at 8 AM (UTC/GMT) with an introduction to the course and an onboarding session, going over some details we had already touched on during Day 0. One of the highlights of the morning was learning about career services – how they’ll support us in landing our first job in cybersecurity. It’s reassuring to know that we’ll get guidance beyond just technical skills!

After the onboarding, we jumped straight into our first class session, diving into networking fundamentals. We covered key concepts like:

  • Setting up a network
  • VLANs (Virtual LANs)
  • Network Troubeshooting

We also got hands-on experience through some TryHackMe labs, which really helped reinforce the concepts. We also had access to additional resources for self-study, giving us more ways to deepen our understanding.

Before the bootcamp, I had already completed some TryHackMe labs, so while I’m reviewing the material we’re all studying, I’m also diving into topics I haven’t explored yet. Right now, I’m focusing on cryptography and John the Ripper, following the Cybersecurity 101 path on Tryhackme. My goal is to stay a bit ahead of the curriculum so I can feel well-prepared for what’s coming next. I know the material is dense, and I want to finish this bootcamp knowing I gave it my best effort and that I’m ready to step into the Cybersecurity industry.

First Impressions

The professor seems like a chill and knowledgeable guy, which is a big plus. In an intense bootcamp like this, I feel that having good guidance and a strong instructor makes all the difference, and I think we lucked out!

I’m still learning about the vibes of the class and getting to know each other, but so far, I’m really enjoying the experience.
