How I Passed the CompTIA Security+ Exam

This wasn’t my first CompTIA exam, so I felt comfortable on how I was going to study for it. It took me about 6-7 weeks and a schedule with daily and weekly goals.

When I finished the Ironhack bootcamp, I started watching Jason Dion’s Udemy course. Some materials I just needed some revision because the bootcamp already covered a good portion of the content.

At the same time I was also figuring out what I knew and didn’t know by doing practice exams on Examcompass with my classmate from the bootcamp. Also, having a buddy to study with really helped me. It’s nice to have someone to study with so we can motivate each other when we need to.

As I was studying through the contents, I was making flash cards with the help of my favourite AI. I tried Anki flashcards but then I changed it to Quizlet. I made a folder for all the topics I studied for here.

After finishing the course, I started doing Jason Dion’s practice exams, which I bought from his website. They include 1,170 questions, selected randomly, with unlimited retakes. I ended up doing about 16 practice exams. Out of all the resources I used, these were by far the best. The questions were almost identical to the real ones from CompTIA.

During the final week before the exam, I focused on revision. I went through a bunch of free questions from several websites and YouTube channels. Most of them weren’t great, but that actually helped me, it forced me to think on my own. I could spot poorly written questions and figure out what they were trying to test, which made me realize I knew the material well.

Now, for the PBQs (Performance Based Questions) I watched this playlist on Youtube. Those PBQs are from CompTIA‘s official website called CertMaster. I was watching the videos and pausing them to see if I could answer correctly. I found more PBQs online, but none were as good as the CertMaster ones.

So, in summary I watched Jason Dion’s Udemy course, I did 16 practice exams from Jason Dion’s website, I did all the practice exams on Examcompass twice, read all the flashcards I made on Quizlet, watched 16 PBQs from CertMaster on Youtube and I did more free questions and PBQs wherever I could find them online.
